About the history of the creation of the ITER project, about how the construction of a thermonuclear reactor is going on and what awaits humanity in the event of a successful implementation of future development.
The most important thing about this mega-science project and the participation of the Russian side you can find in this video format.
Russian specialists were entrusted with the manufacture of 25 unique systems for the future installation; More than 30 leading scientific and technical institutes, enterprises and complexes in many cities of the country are involved in this process, including NPO GKMP LLC. ITER is the next logical step in the development of research programs in the field of thermonuclear fusion control, a necessary step in demonstrating the possibility of generating electricity based on thermonuclear fusion.
Reference
The future installation is based on the tokamak system (Toroidal Chamber with Magnetic Coils) developed by Soviet scientists, developed in the 50s of the last century by academicians Igor E. Tamm and Andrei D. Sakharov. The launch of the reactor and production of the first plasma on it are planned in 2025.
A thermonuclear reactor works like this: deuterium and tritium are placed in the reactor chamber and heated to a temperature of millions of degrees, after which a thermonuclear reaction begins with the release of a huge amount of energy (deuterium and tritium nuclei merge), with the help of which electrical energy will be generated at new thermonuclear power plants.
