Mishustin took part in the launch of a tokamak at the Kurchatov Institute

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin took part in the ceremony of physical launch of the T-15MD tokamak mega-installation at the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center.

This is the first new thermonuclear installation built in Russia in the last 20 years. Its launch is an important step in the development of the Russian school of thermonuclear research and the implementation of the Russian national program for controlled thermonuclear fusion. The T-15MD tokamak is based on the technology developed by the Kurchatov Institute.

The mega-installation is part of the structure of the international thermonuclear project ITER, the ITER reactor will be able to operate by 2035. Tokamak T-15MD will become one of the installations for solving a number of research tasks of the ITER project.

Mastering the technology of controlled thermonuclear fusion (CTF) within the framework of the ITER project will make it possible to obtain an almost inexhaustible and ecologically safe source of energy.

The world's first CCF installation was invented at the Kurchatov Institute in the early 1950s and was named a tokamak (toroidal chamber with magnetic coils).

Let us recall that the preliminary control assembly of the T-15MD magnetic system together with the vacuum chamber, as well as the modernization work, were completed at the NPO GKMP LLC plant in Bryansk.
