Road building industry perspectives discussed in Chelyabinsk
The last week in Chelyabinsk was marked by the expo-forum “Road season: Experience. Development. Innovation”, a venue for discussion of perspectives for road building industry in the region, as well as issues to overcome. Companies from various regions of our country presented their products.
This year the expo took two days 13 and 14th of April and was attended by the administration of the Ural federal district, government of the Chelyabinsk region, regional ministries and community, as well as by heads of road building, contractor and scientific organizations.

— The regional administration is traditionally focused on road building area thus allowing us to bring into life the most challenging and cost-intensive projects, and on yearly basis attract considerable means to restore the proper conditions of the roads, - emphasized the mister of road facilities and transport of the Chelyabinsk region Alexey Nechayev.
The first day of the forum was marked with reports made by the representatives of contractor organizations and road building professionals. The agenda of the second part that took place on April 14th and covered the situation in municipal regions. The objectives, plans and prospective were explained by the head of the Public Roads Administration of the regional Ministry of Roads and Transport Vladimir Trofimov.
— - This year municipal regions had allocated over RUB 8.1 billion for construction, reconstruction, repair and maintenance of local highways from the regional budget. This sum is equal to 40% of the total road construction fund of the region —, noted Vladimir Trofimov. – over RUB 1.2 billion are to be spent on construction and reconstruction of local roads, extensive repair and maintenance will take RUB 5.7 billion; the implementation of the project “Regional and local road network” will require RUB 1.15 billion.
The major part of the sum announced is to be given to Chelyabinsk – 50% (RUB 4.03 billion) and Magnitogorsk (RUB 1.65 billion). During the entire 2023 10.6 km of local highways are scheduled to be built and repaired; in addition, 171 km of local public roads will undergo overhaul repair.

Mr. Trofimov also mentioned some issues confronted by the regional road building industry. The main of them is the lack of the long-term planning in municipal districts that results in untimely preparation of cost estimate documentation for priority projects. Moreover, the head of administration noted that at local level one incorrectly defines the parameters of roads to be repaired. This causes certain complications when allocating monetary resources.

Any attendee could freely make an acquaintance with production and technologies presented on benches of companies from different regions. So, the “NPO “GKMP” LLC headquartered in Bryansk made a presentation of its own up-to-date road machinery. Our magazine is the first to discover the soon coming serial production of road paver Desna-1800.
— The characteristics of new machines fit those of overseas analogues and will surely take a proper place among road pavers operating in our country - , said the chief expert of the road building machinery of the “NPO “GKMP” LLC Alexander Veretennikov.
Bryansk machine manufacturers are ready to replace the European brands that left the domestic market.
The manufacturer is confident that the Russian Desna-1800 will be as good as road pavers produced by the Swedish Volvo and German Vogele.
The company “NPP SK Most” located in Balashikha in the Moscow region demonstrated innovative technologies used to repair bridges.
The organizers stated that for two days the expo was visited by several hundred people. This event is to be held on yearly basis and shall take place as early as next year, as the relevant decision has been already taken in Chelyabinsk
As we have already mentioned, the Plenipotentiary of the President Vladimir Yakushev reported that in the following 5 years over 1188 km of roads will be built, repaired and reconstructed.
