The T-15 toroidal plasma magnetic confinement facility was built at the Kurchatov Institute in the late 1980s. In 2012, the T-15 reactor was temporarily decommissioned in connection with plans for a deep modernization.
The increased energy requirements were to be met by a new power supply system. A radical restructuring of the existing installation with the replacement of all key systems was carried out at the NPO GKMP LLC plant in Bryansk. The modernization consisted in the creation of a completely new electromagnetic system and a vacuum chamber, a new powerful power supply system - that is, in fact, in the creation of a completely new tokamak
The modernization of the reactor under the T-15MD project was completed last year, after which the commissioning work began. Recently, the update process was successfully completed - and a physical launch took place. At the same time, the process of development of the scientific and technical base does not stop. In April, it became known that in 2021-2024 years the existing tokamak will be supplemented with new systems for various purposes.
LLC NPO GKMP, in turn, continues to actively work on the development and manufacture of four stands for testing port plugs of the reactor of the large-scale ITER project.
As a reminder, the company signed an agreement for the development of a detailed design and pilot production of components for vacuum benches for testing upper and equatorial port plugs (Port Plug Test Facility - PPTF) with ITER in 2020. The customer of the project is the institution of the ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation -Company Project Center ITER - the Russian Agency ITER, the End User - the International Organization of ITER.
